This is the official application portal for the Patient Care Trust Fund (PCTF) of the Committee of Interns & Residents/SEIU Healthcare (CIR/SEIU).
One of CIR's oldest and largest patient care funds, the PCTF is a collectively-bargained resource available exclusively to interns, residents, and fellows at all eleven NYC Health + Hospitals (H + H) facilities.

Founded in 1981 by CIR members, the Patient Care Trust Fund (PCTF) is a resident-led charitable foundation dedicated to improving patient care and safety in the NYC public health system. Each academic year, PCTF empowers NYC H + H house staff with nearly $1M in grant funding to advance health equity and outcomes through medical equipment, training resources, clinical research, community-based health initiatives, and more. By making grants and engaging CIR members, we help house staff in every specialty develop a powerful collective voice to enhance residency, reduce health disparities, and promote quality care for all New Yorkers.
CIR PCTF Community Research and Action Grant

Grant Description:
The CIR PCTF Community Research and Action Grant (CRA), a social medicine fund, supports emerging housestaff leaders at NYC H + H with dedicated funding to conceive and implement innovative research, quality improvement, and advocacy initiatives that improve medical training and knowledge, strengthen safety and care delivery, and confront the social determinants of health.
Current Funding Priorities:
Under a new strategic vision, "Confronting the Moment Before Us, Together," the CIR PCTF Board of Trustees is actively seeking resident-led projects that address the interlocking health challenges posed by climate change and systemic racism through education and action.
As frontline doctors and union members working in the country's largest public health system, we are uniquely positioned to raise awareness and respond to these overlapping crises to not only keep our people safe–but to help build just, sustainable, and resilient community conditions that can advance medicine and improve health outcomes.
To that end, our funding priority will be given to proposals for research, education, and community-level interventions that specifically employ a racial, gender, or immigrant justice lens to advance environmental sustainability in our hospitals, strengthen climate resiliency in our communities, or mitigate the impacts of environmental racism on our patients.
NYC Health + Hospitals residents and fellows are eligible to apply as individuals, as a team within their department or in collaboration with other departments, and/or in partnership with local nonprofits and community-based organizations to accomplish these goals. Grant funding can be used towards appropriate project-related budget items, including lab supplies, promotional materials, patient incentives, external consultants, and more.
